Kirkstall Valley Development Trust is a community organisation dedicated to supporting the people of Kirkstall Valley. We have two sites: Kirkstall Valley Farm and Our Community Hub on Norman Street.
We work alongside residents, community groups, and local partners to support local ideas, improve shared spaces, and help people feel more connected to where they live. A key part of our work is caring for and developing the farm as a shared community asset — a place for people to learn, grow, volunteer, and spend time in nature.
By listening to local voices and responding to local needs, we help turn good ideas into meaningful action. Our focus is on strengthening the community, supporting local projects, and making Kirkstall Valley a welcoming, inclusive place for everyone.
Space in nature
Kirkstall Valley Farm is a friendly, community-run space where people can slow down, get outdoors, and enjoy being in nature. It’s a place for growing food, learning new skills, volunteering, and spending time together, whether that’s getting your hands muddy or just going for a walk. We run a Community Supported Agriculture Project which produces weekly harvest share veg boxes.
The farm is here for everyone — supporting wellbeing, caring for the environment, and bringing the community together. It’s a shared space shaped by the people who use it, and a much-loved part of life in Kirkstall Valley.
A place to belong
The Kirkstall Valley Development Trust Community Hub is a welcoming space for everyone in the local area. It’s a place where people can meet, take part in activities, and get support with projects and ideas.
A key part of the hub is our community pantry, which helps local people access affordable food while reducing waste. Alongside regular groups, events, and volunteering opportunities, the hub is at the heart of the community — bringing people together, supporting wellbeing, and helping Kirkstall Valley thrive.
Our Services
-

Children and Families
We have weekly play sessions for preschoolers and home educated children, a school holiday playscheme, forest school groups, youth boxing skills and seasonal family events.
-

Abbey Pantry
Our food pantry is open at the hub every Wednesday. You can use the pantry to top up your usual shopping and make your money go further. It also supports food redistribution and reduces waste.

Lunch Club
We always welcome new members to our friendly lunch club. It’s much more than just a meal at an affordable price - it’s a time to connect with and support other members of the community.
“ The farm is an escape for families, to get involved in the natural surroundings, pick up skills in a playful way and feel a world away from the city!”
